這是一首實力派女歌手都想嘗試的高難度歌曲，但沒有兩把刷子的話，下場鐵定是死得很難看，故翻唱版本不算多。

"阿根廷，別為我哭泣"這首歌是百老匯舞台劇「艾薇塔」（Evita）中最膾炙人口的一首歌，作曲者便是鼎鼎大名的安德魯洛伊韋伯（Andrew Lloyd Webber）。

「艾薇塔」的劇情是描述阿根廷第一夫人伊娃裴隆（Eva Peron）的一生。１９１９年１１月２１日她生於阿根廷的小鄉村洛托多，十九歲到首都布宜諾斯艾利斯發展演藝事業，廿六歲認識裴隆上校，並成為他的第二任妻子。１９４６年裴隆當選阿根廷總統，她出任勞工部長，成立伊娃裴隆基金會，組織裴隆黨的婦女黨部。１９５１年她企圖搭檔競選副總統，遭到軍方反對，隔年因為子宮癌過世，年僅卅三歲。

該劇推出之後，在英美兩地的票房均十分風光，因此這首歌在市面上有幾個不同的演唱版本。包括英國首演版的茱莉柯雯頓（Julie Covington）、曾獲東尼獎最佳女主角的佩蒂露邦（Patti Lubone），以及有「音樂舞台劇女王」之稱的伊蓮佩姬（Elaine Paige），流行音樂界則有芭芭拉史翠珊。

該劇大受歡迎，電影界當然不會放過這樣的題材。７０年代末，好萊塢就拍出了「鐵腕紅顏」，由費唐娜薇出飾阿根廷第一夫人。１９９７年，英國導演亞倫帕克（Alan Parker）再度將該劇搬上銀幕，並保留原劇中的音樂。消息一傳出，許多歌喉不差的女明星均極力爭取演出的機會，令人跌破眼鏡的是最後竟由「歌壇豪放女」瑪丹娜出線，導致阿根廷全國上下群情激憤，抗議惡女形象的瑪丹娜不配演出該國聖女艾薇塔。

影片完成後反應平平，瑪丹娜重新詮釋劇中的歌曲，雖無法超越前人，但起碼因為她的號召力，使更多年輕歌迷能夠領會這齣經典音樂劇的迷人之處，也算是功過相抵。
