CHIC是融合迪斯可、節奏藍調、放克與靈魂等多樣化曲風，深刻影響黑人音樂發展的70年代最佳迪斯可樂團。，就如同00世代，現在當紅的"黑眼豆豆"樂團一樣，不僅是音樂風格融合了多元化 (除了Disco風格外，他們還有R & B、Funk & Soul等令人驚喜之作) 等等強勢領導作風、更留下了許多傲人的紀錄；而正逢Disco風潮的世代，CHIC更被喻為了Disco的最佳樂團。Chic 成立於Disco正熾烈的1977年紐約，以Funky節拍、都會時尚的舞曲，橫掃全美的流行音樂榜，更深遠地影響Urban Funk都會放克、Dance-Pop流行舞曲、Hip-Hop The Post-Disco後迪斯可嘻哈等黑人音樂的發展。
深受爵士樂影響的吉他手Nile Rodgers 及貝斯手Bernard Edward 於1972年組成了Jazz-Rock Band : The Big Apple Band，而後還成為New York City、Carol Douglas的伴奏樂隊，在與鼓手Tony Thomson相遇後，招來了兩位女主音Norma Jean Wright、Alfa Anderson成立了CHIC。1977年，他們發表第一首創作曲Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)卻被6大唱片公司拒絕，結果僅被一家佛教音樂公司發行了12寸黑膠唱片，但受到紐約俱樂部的歡迎，Atlantic唱片公司於是簽下他們，並將此曲攻下排行榜Top 10六週之久，再加上單曲Everybody Dance，成為CHIC同名首作的代表曲。
1978年，連續5週的冠軍單曲Le Freak誕生，更創下4百萬張的銷售，成為Atlantic唱片公司的紀錄保持者。第2支單曲I Want Your Love再登上第7名，專輯因此登上王座，也驚人地成為少有賣出破百萬張的舞曲唱片之作。1979年，專輯 Risque推出，再以單曲Good Times驚動舞界，專輯又再破百萬。此後，Nile Rodgers及Bernard Edward也成功地成為唱片製作人，1979年的Sister Sledge、1980年的Diana Rose皆是代表作。(資料來自博客來網路書店)
