出生於 1951 年、本名為 Gaynor Hopkins 的 Bonnie Tyler，來自英國威爾斯一個叫 Skewen 的小村莊；由於媽媽本身就熱愛音樂與歌唱，所以 Bonnie Tyler 從小就喜歡學 Janis Joplin、Tina Turner 等女歌手跳跳唱唱，不過她自己存錢買的第一張專輯，卻是 The Beatles 的《A Hard Day's Night》。十八歲的時候，她參加比賽，演唱 Mary Hopkin 的〈Those Were the Days〉，可惜只得到了第二名，因此她便改為加入一個叫做 Bobby Wayne and the Dixies 的樂團擔任主唱。唱了兩年，她決定自組樂團 Imagination，並開始在南威爾斯的一些俱樂部裡面演出，在家鄉紅了約七年，直到 1975 年她被 RCA Records 簽下，並將藝名正式改為 Bonnie Tyler。

 

1976 年，她的首張單曲〈Lost in France〉獲得極高的評價，隔年首張專輯《The World Starts Tonight》發行之後，聲勢一路上漲，歐洲各國的排行榜上都能見到她的名字。不過，1977 年時，在她動了一個聲帶手術之後，並沒有按照醫生的指示，六週內不能說話……所以，她的聲音就變得像現在這麼沙啞了。當時她以為她的歌唱生涯就這樣完蛋了的時候，接著發行的〈It's a Heartache〉單曲居然在美國排行榜登上第三名的佳績，在其他西方國家同樣也都在Top 5 之內，在歐洲甚至可以把 Michael Jackson 當時紅透半邊天的〈Billie Jean〉給擠下冠軍寶座，間接表示了她因禍得福的特殊嗓音將讓她成為國際巨星。果真，她的歌聲不但傳到更遠的地方，在歌壇的地位也更加崇高了。最高峰應屬 1983 年《Faster Than the Speed of Night》專輯發行的時候：該專輯內收錄的〈Total Eclipse of the Heart〉紅遍全球，同時攻下十八個國家的榜首，更讓她獲得該年葛萊美最佳流行女歌手提名。之後，Bonnie Tyler 這名字就常出現在葛萊美的入圍名單上，更是歐美音樂排行榜上的常客。

到了 1991 年，Bonnie Tyler 轉換新東家，加入 BMG 德國子公司 Hansa，於新公司發行的第一張專輯即是收錄〈Against the Wind〉的專輯《Bitterblue》。這張專輯雖然在許多國家都得到白金的肯定，不過聲勢其實也已經比不上《Faster Than the Speed of Night》全盛時期的樣子了。儘管如此，她仍在 1993 年與 1994 年分別獲得國際音樂獎項最佳女歌手的榮譽，實至名歸。(以上資料來自獨吟之舞 Solo Myself)
