起源於60年代的嬉皮文化，成名於當時的迷幻搖滾運動的Jefferson Airplane一直都是當今搖滾樂團的時代先驅者，儘管團名先後在Jefferson Airplane、JeffersonStarship、Airplane與Starship之間打轉，他們的地位始終屹立不搖，堪稱世界上最偉大的樂團之一！
國內樂迷對他們最熟悉的莫過於80年代中期Starship所帶來的冠軍曲，分別為1985年專輯「Knee Deep in the Hoopla」的 "We Built This City"，"Sara"，以及1987年「No Protection」的葛萊美得獎曲 "Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now"，然而在獲得商業性的成功之餘，他們這30多年來為樂壇所帶來的音樂文化 - 迷幻搖滾精神(psychedelic rock spirit) 更是他們最為成功的時代功績。(以上資料來自博客來音樂館)
